Thunder United Youth Academy

What is the Youth Academy?

The Thunder United Youth Academy (Academy) is a program open to boys and girls between 5-8 years old.  The program is designed to help each child understand the sport of soccer better and develop their soccer skills.  The academy is a fun, organized program that provides a positive learning experience for players moving towards competitive soccer

The program focus is to provide the developmental bridge between recreational and competitive soccer through advanced player development of fundamental soccer skills (first touch, passing, and receiving, dribbling); while maintaining a stimulating environment.

Some of the objectives of the program are as follows:

  • Develop fundamental skills
  • Promote physical fitness
  • Motivate each player through various, fun activities
  • Teach proper sportsmanship
  • Challenge each player
  • Foster their passion for the game

What are the practices like or training?

The academy currently has 2 practices per week.  One practice is conducted by the trainer, Isa Ar-Razi or another licensed trainer in his absence, and one practice is conducted by the “coach” of each individual team we are able to establish.   This allows the boys and girls the opportunity to learn various skills but to also learn the various positions and basic understanding of the game.  Each practice runs for either 1 hour or 1 hour 30 minutes depending on the season and time frame.

 Does the Academy play games?

The Academy does play games in 2 different formats.  The first format is for the older boys and girls.  Those that are U7 and U8 play in the Elite Player League, EPL, where they play against other boys and girls at other select clubs. This league allows the players to use the training they get each week in a game atmosphere. The idea is not to worry about the score, but to encourage the players to try new things, dribble the ball, make a move, etc.  Plus, it allows the kids to do what they like most – play in a game.  Additionally, the U8 teams get to play in the Thunder United Metro Tournament Classic for FREE!

The second format is designed for those kids that are U5 and U6.  These players do not play in an actual league, but do play in various games.  Thunder works with other clubs to set up World Cup style games, 6v6 games and 4v4 games.  At this age we do not want to push or overwhelm the boys and girls, but it is important that they experience and play in a game.  Playing in games allows the children to build their love for the game and ultimately become a better soccer player through the passion they show.

How much does the Academy cost?

For the U7 and U8 players that are playing in the EPL the cost is $150 per season.

For the players that are U5 and U6 and playing in the world cup style games and inter-league play games the cost is $75 per season.

*This cost is subject to change each season based on league fees, training, etc.
